OCA – People and
Place
Exercise 15: A Public Space
For this exercise I decided to choose Hampton, Peterborough and it’s footpaths,
lakes and people.
A Nikon D800 camera and a Nikon 24mm-70mm lens were used during this exercise.
Photograph 1
This photograph was taken outdoors at a focal length of 38mm in bright conditions.
I had asked the people if I could photograph them.
Photograph 2
This photograph was semi staged as the mother and child dog walking were asked to
make the scene more interesting with an action.
Photograph 3
I took this photograph as the family were feeding the local
wildfowl on a public
footpath on Hampton. The family were happy to have their
photographs taken.
A very similar exercise to the previous one, although I had
to speak to all the
subjects to ask permission to take their photographs.
The main purpose is to connect rail passengers to
London and other travel connections, whether by rail, road, bus, tube or taxi.
The above image was taken at St Pancreas station in London; it shows daily commuters moving around the station towards the exit, platforms and connections to further destinations. The retail shops below and stations above show how well the station was designed and the central corridor keeps the flow of people moving. Information signs are visible, as is the time!

Exercise 16: Exploring
Function
This particular exercise focused on approaching and teaching
a space and how that space was intended to be used. Was the design functional?
The space had to be internal and I chose a public space in
London, St Pancreas station.
A Nikon D800 camera and a Nikon 24mm-70mm lens were used
during this exercise.
