Exercise 11: Standing Back
For this exercise you needed to select a medium-long focal length, ideally between
80mm-200mm full frame equivalent and note any practical difficulties.
A Nikon D800 camera and a Nikon 70mm-200mm lens were used during this exercise.
Photograph 1
I noticed this lady feeding the pigeons and also the fact
that she seemed to be in
deep concentration, not actually looking at the
pigeons whilst feeding them. I had
to wait for the area in front of the subject
to clear before taking this shot whilst sitting
on an opposite bench.
Photograph 2
I took this photograph outside the entrance to a local
shopping centre. The subject
was walking fast, so I wanted to get the shot
quickly.
Photograph 3
These people were sitting on a bench during lunchtime. I
noticed how the body
language of the lady on the right was to turn her back
away from the couple.
I had to wait for the area in the foreground to be free
before taking this shot.
Photograph 4
This gentleman was actually fast asleep. I had walked past
him and then turned
to take this shot. I knelt down to try to reduce the
perspective of shooting from
higher up.

Exercise 12: Close
and Involved
For this exercise you needed to select a wide focal length,
ideally below 28mm full frame equivalent and note any practical difficulties.
A Nikon D800 camera and a Nikon 24mm-70mm lens were used during
this exercise.
Photograph 1
This photograph was taken indoors at a focal length of 24mm.
The intention was to get very close to the left eye and to focus on that part
of the face. The low lighting helps to accentuate the look.
Photograph 2
I took this photograph whilst having a walk through
Cambridge and I asked the gentlemen if he minded having his photograph taken.
This photograph was taken with a focal length of 24mm.
Photograph 3
This lady was sitting on a bench during the morning in
Cambridge. She was writing numerous letters and texting on her phone. I
approached and asked if she had any problems with me taking a photograph of
her. She was more than happy and it was taken with a 27mm focal length.
I had no problems taken these photographs and photograph 1
show's how you can provide the viewer with an alternative view and help to
bring them in to the photograph.
