Assignment 1: A Portrait

The aim of the first assignment is to introduce yourself to your tutor with a selection
of portrait work with one subject.

I have selected one subject and provided seven photographs taken over six sessions.

This is one of two images taken in a local underpass to provide a urban feel. I asked
the subject to dress accordingly to the chosen location.

I like this photograph and planned to have the subject looking away from the camera,
the viewer has no idea of what the subject is looking at...

Photograph 2

This photograph was taking in doors with one snoot lighting unit used and a low
key set up.
I am not as pleased with this image, the left eye should not really be visible and
I will look to retake this image at a later stage.

Photograph 3

I wanted a simple pose at home and I used a little side lighting with a high
key background. I positioned the subject left of centre. This is an ok image,
perhaps the composition could of been a little better, composing further away to
bring in all the hair.

Photograph 4

An image taken on the spur of the moment, I’m so amazed at how teenagers are
constantly on their smart phones.
I used a high saturation to provide a different look to the image.
I think this image shows that whatever was being read or sent was not necessarily
good news!

Photograph 5

Another low key image, although this one has a different composition.
I succeeded in what I had planned, casting half the face in shadow.

Photograph 6

I wanted a completely different composition and decided to have the subject
walking towards me. An on camera flash was used.

Photograph 7

This image was taken at home and I wanted to have the subject looking really happy.
On that point, I got it right.

I changed the clarity and burnt in the edges to give a modern look to the image. I chose black and white for this, which I prefer
