We have spent a couple of days in Manchester, a first for
me. Whilst in Manchester I wanted to visit ‘The Lowry’ located at Salford
Quays. I found this to be an excellent visit and really enjoyed looking at
Lowry’s works. I love the raw aspects to many of Lowry’s paintings, proving
that you don’t always need lots of detail to provide an image that is well
liked. I also noticed the colour ‘red’ is evident in many of Lowry’s work, a
possible favourite colour?
One of the main reasons for attending was to visit ‘Comedians:From The 1940’s to Now’. This is a collection of images of comedians taken in a
mainly portrait setting. This exhibition is open from September 2012 until
January 2013. The exhibition included images of Benny Hill, Sid James, Matt
Lucas, Johnny Vegas and Victoria Wood to name only a few. Many of the images
were in black and white, providing contrast in some aspects to the funny side
of the comedian’s job. Many were staged in a manner to look plain, grumpy even
and the photographs had plenty of tone and contrast.
