Today I visited London to view a few exhibitions.
- National Maritime Museum
I have been looking forward to this exhibition for some time
and it did not disappoint. I love the work of Ansel Adams. The exhibition was
called ‘Photography from the Mountains to the Sea’ and covered a wide range of
his work, bringing together his most powerful and striking photographs of water
in all its forms.
- The National Gallery
The exhibition was titled ‘Seduced By Art, Photography Past
& Present’ and was The National Galleries first major exhibition to cover
photography. It looked at how early and contemporary photographers made use of
fine art traditions. This exhibition really made you take a step back to view
the similarities between the early photographs on display and the link to early
masters within the art of painting.
- The National Portrait Gallery
I had visited this exhibition two years ago, so wanted to
return to get a perspective on the portraits selected over time. The ‘Taylor
Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize’ shows sixty portraits by photographers
from all over the world. I find that the majority of the selected photographers
do have formal photographic qualifications. This particular year in my opinion
had a broader range of portraits and I actually really liked the winners!
